Your destination is declared a Do Not Travel zone while you’re on your trip

If you're travelling and one of your destinations is declared a Do Not Travel Zone, here's what to do.


What to do

  1. Contact the Australian embassy


    If you’re on your trip and DFAT unexpectedly changes the alert level for your current location or a future destination to a ‘Do Not Travel’ zone, contact the nearest Australian embassy, diplomatic or consular mission for advice on the best course of action. Visit their website at for up-to-date information.

  2. Monitor advice in the local media and follow instructions from local authorities

  3. Rearrange your bookings


    As soon as you know that any pre-booked or pre-paid travel arrangements will be affected, you must try to reschedule them or make alternative arrangements. If you don’t act immediately, we may either not pay your claim or reduce how much we pay for any additional Extra trip costs that arise as a result of your delay.

  4. Provide receipts for expenses incurred
